How to Set-up Google Drive for desktop

If you need access to Shared folders between your business and Commspace Follow these steps.

Step 1 - Uninstall Backup and Sync

If you don't have Backup and Sync installed, you can skip ahead to Step 2.

Uninstall Backup and Sync by clicking on the Windows menu and typing "Add or remove" in the search box.

  • Select Backup and Sync from Google in the list and click Uninstall. If you can't find it in the list then you don't have it installed. Proceed to Step 2.

  • Select Yes at the next prompt

Step 2 - Install Google Drive for Desktop

Install Google Drive for Desktop by visiting https://support.google.com/drive/answer/7329379

  • Expand Download & install Google Drive for desktop and click Download for Windows

  • When the file is finished downloading, double-click GoogleDriveSetup.exe to launch the installer.

  • Answer yes at the next prompt

  • Next, the installer will ask you if you want to add shortcuts to your Desktop. You can choose any options here. When ready, click the Install button.

  • The installation process will now proceed. If everything worked correctly, you'll see something like this.

  • Click the Close button.

3 - Setup shared folder

If you open Windows Explorer, you'll now see a new entry for Google Drive will be added to your Quick Access menu.

  • Double Click on My Drive to open your private Google Drive. This is where all the files we share with you will land up.

  • Right-click on My Drive and select Open with Google Drive to visit your drive on the web.

(You'll see something like this.)

  • Click on Shared with me.

  • Right-click on the folder we shared with you and select Add a shortcut to Drive.

  • Highlight My Drive and click Add Shortcut

  • You should now see a shortcut to the folder in My Drive.

  • Open Windows Explorer to see the shared folder in My Drive.

You can seamlessly work with the files in shared folder from Windows Explorer. Any files you edit or add in this folder will be seamlessly shared with us and vice versa.
