You can create a product alias when you have two different product numbers for the same product

It happens from time to time that the product number of a product changes. Since we don't want to lose the history associated with the original product number, we do not allow product numbers to be changed on product records which are already linked to statement line items. To deal with changing product numbers, we instead allow a product number alias to be specified for a product. From that point on, any statement line item containing either the original product number or the product number alias, will automatically be be matched to the product record.

To get started, first go to Products:

Ensure that Product Alias column is visible. If not, make it visible by clicking the   Manage Columns icon at the bottom left of the list and then selecting the Product Number Alias option:

Add a product number alias to an existing product record by clicking "None" and specifying the new product number for the product:

You can also modify an existing product number alias by clicking on an alias in the list:
